My office/closet: BEFORE

Today, I started to officially move in to my new office/closet.  I decided to take along my camera to take some "before" photos for all of you...pre-decoration.  So, without further ado, welcome to my office!  I realize that this first photo is a bit blurry, so please let me explain.  My new office/closet is tucked back in a little corner where absolutely none of my students will be able to find it.  Because they will never walk by it.  Because it's in a corner.  So, I thoughtfully taped this sign on the wall in order to help direct them into my office/closet.  I'm sorry it's a bit blurry - in case you can't read it, it says "Mrs. Smith" with an arrow pointing right - right into my door.  :)
Let's take a closer look...

Today, I discovered just how difficult it really is to take a photo of a tiny room.  What's odd, is that this room is even tinier than it appears in these photos.  Hmmm.  The photo above is taken from the threshold of the office/closet door, looking in.  Um, obviously.  The photo below is taken from, well, the corner by the school's fuse box.  I have already violated school code, just by taking this photograph.  School rules state that nothing is to come within three feet of the fuse box.  Le sigh.

Below:  a photograph of the tiny box plugged into an outlet that under no circumstances can be unplugged, at any time, ever because it's connected to the school's alarm system (??).  You may notice with concern, as I have, the already burnt/fried appearance of said box, along with the frayed wires peeking out from the top.  Hmmmm.

And here is the money shot...a photo from my back wall facing out to my front (um, and only) door.  Please note the MASSIVE FUSE BOX on the wall.  Oh, and then there's another fuse box or something, too...?  I don't even know what that is.  Hmmm.  I showed this photo to my supervisor, who suggested that my office has a "cool, industrial loft vibe going on."  I am going to run with this one, I think.

To be perfectly frank, once I hauled in my floor lamp and turned off the overhead florescent, things got 100% better.  And I started moving things around and decorating today, and decided that perhaps I like my little corner cave after all.  I put a bunch of boring work-related posters up today (real men stop domestic violence, Indiana top jobs, Indiana college map, blah blah blah blah blah boring), and tomorrow I'm going to hang up some real art (i.e. some beautiful photos that my uncle took in Africa, and my diplomas).  Updated photos to come, soon.

Oh, and as a sidenote - things could be worse.  I could be the counseling intern.  That's her desk, just out the door there.  Yes, that's right.  In the hallway.

I am now totally bringing my camera to the office next week to surreptitiously take pictures of my new digs. Thanks for letting me steal the idea, haha!

I like you positive attitude and I like that you can control the power for the entire building. Small office, large responsibility.
You are in charge. Very cool.

That's not too bad I was expecting no desk even or one of those mini ones.

Love it! That poor intern lol. Luckily next year (as an intern), I'm actually GETTING AN OFFICE. I can't believe it. I am looking forward to decorating it though! :-)

Wow, that thing that cannot be plugged looks like bad news waiting to happen. Can't they give you a new one that doesn't look....about to malfunction? I'm sorry, I just get angry because mental health professionals in the schools are VITAL and they need better and more comfortable offices in which to do their jobs and I don't like the conditions in which the half of us work in. If the hubs' office in the schools this year is anything half like that, I will probably cry. Seriously, the hallway? Confidentiality happens, how? Le sigh. I am so dramatic!

However, you have far better an attitude than I do and I'm pretty curious to see your artwork! There will be After pictures, no?

Shaina- What's up with the diaper box on the desk????? Are you handing out free diapers at the school or is there a large part of your life we all don't know about? Thanks for posting pics, though, I 've been wondering how you were going to make it all work!

ahh, a fellow teacher :) I don't have the luxury of having an "office", just a classroom (or two! i teach at two schools), but at the one my desk is tucked behind the door and the kids can't see me there--and I hear WAYYYY too much that I would prefer not to hear going on in the hallway, and they're only in elementary school!

cute blog, too ;0
