Walk for the Animals: A Recap

Happy Sunday, lovely readers! Can you believe that it's already the end of the weekend??! Wow. It went way too fast, in my opinion.

WELL! Today was finally THE WALK FOR THE ANIMALS! Whew, what an event. I packed Oscar up in the car and went to pick up my little sister S, her TWO friends, her dog Ripley, and her friend's dog.

So, for those of you keeping tally, that's:

3 twelve year-old girls
2 four-legged dogs
1 three-legged dog
1 Shaina

Needless to say...it was a bit chaotic. I was really pleased with our fundraising: thanks to my last donation from Molly Lou Gifts, I raised a whopping $425, 85% of my goal of $500!!!! S raised $65, 65% of her $100 goal. I think we did great! We checked in, got bandannas and t-shirts and goody bags, and started exploring! It was pretty awesome, and I've never seen so many dogs in one place before! I brought my camera, and excitedly took it out to snap some photos...and realized that my camera battery was dead. FAIL. I am SO bummed - I was really excited to share photos with you. Boo.

There were lots of booths set up - area pet stores, etc, with tons of free stuff. Oscar has a gazillion new bandannas, tennis balls, frisbees, treats, you name it! I also have a ton of samples for new, all-natural pet foods. I talked with this lady from a local pet store for forever about the right dog food...she basically told me that any dog food you can get in a supermarket is bad news. We feed Oscar Beneful right now, and she really cautioned against it. What do you feed your dogs? I guess I'm going to head over to one of the local shops and find some new, healthy dog food tomorrow.

The best booth, in my opinion, was the portraits booth! There was an artist there doing very basic pen and marker portraits of the dogs for a suggested $5 donation. I am now the proud owner of an Oscar sketch! It's actually pretty good. She was doing them in black and white, and...since Oscar is black and white, it's a pretty good representation of him!

There was also a little doggie water park, and an off-leash play area. All in all, we had a great time, and Oscar is still exhausted. We got home at 5, and he has been sleeping ever since. Next time, I will not be bringing along S's friends...they were fine, but one of them had a bit of an attitude that I could have done without. Plus, the friends didn't really want to do anything...the one with the attitude (and, coincidentally, the three legged dog) kept rolling her eyes and seemed like she just wanted to sit around and stuff. S and I had really worked for today, and gosh darnit, we were going to enjoy all of the activities!

The low point of the day: S put a couple of water bottles in my bag, and at one point, I realized that a bottle was leaking. All over my bag. I pulled out my Blackberry, and...it was soaked. And guess what? Now it's DEAD. I am not happy at all. I tried to swing by the Verizon store today before closing, but it was totally packed. I'm going to head there immediately after work tomorrow. Wish me luck. If it can't be fixed, I think I'm going to have to get rid of the Blackberry and just get a regular phone. Which I am not happy about. But, such is life. *sniffle*

So! That was my day. Now, I'm relaxing on the couch, enjoying Sunday night TV! Anyone else watching Desperate Housewives and Brothers and Sisters tonight?

Glad to hear it went well. Although, the attitude girl with the three legged dog? Not cool. I'd love to see the sketch of Oscar. And, sorry about your phone ... that's balls.

Well, for the most part, it sounds like your walk was a success! I'm so sorry your BB broke though and I am hoping, hoping it can be fixed! Fingers crossed!

Ohhh that sounds like SO MUCH FUN!!! What is wrong with the grocery store pet food? I feed our cats food from the grocery store, if you don't mind sharing? I don't want my wubba kitties to be unhealthy!

That sounds like a blast. I always love going to expos like that and visiting all of the booths (and getting free stuff!). I am sorry to hear about your phone though :(
