Bad run!

Well...I had a royally crappy run yesterday afternoon. I felt terrible...but I did my two miles. And the second I stepped off the treadmill, I got a massive migraine. And then I threw up. And then my migraine continued for several hours.

And...well, that was pretty much my entire evening. I'm pretty bummed out about my run, but...I read enough other runners' blogs to know that a crappy run isn't that atypical.

But I wonder why? Why are some runs great, and feel incredible...and others are the exact opposite? This is my first bad run and I'm just interested in why that happens. I didn't even feel good afterwards - like I had just completed a great workout.

Thoughts? Advice? Opinions?

I don't know - usually I get bad stomach cramps after running. I've only managed to get up to a mile in running without stopping so I'm really no expert! You're awesome to be running this often - go you!!

Aw friend, I'm sorry. We all have those bad runs, but at least you went out and made the effort!

That is terrible; so sorry to hear about your migraine! I have no idea what causes that but maybe something you ate before the run (?) Feel better!

It's only natural to have a bad run every now and then. The important part is you stuck with it! I had a similar experience a few weeks ago. I had a cold/flu thing and thought I was all well and went out and ran 3... needless to say, I know how you felt last night.

I think the best thing to do is to listen to your body (not trying to sound cliche).

That sucks. At least you can say you stuck with the program though.

The EXACT same thing happened to me after my first (and only) six miler last summer. I was literally begging God to let me die on my bathroom floor! My doctor said that sometimes our bodies get a little too revved up after exercise and can end up trying to flush toxins - hence the throwing up and migraine. I've also noticed my "bad" runs coincide with days I haven't had enough water...

Just a few thoughts! Hope your next run leaves with an endorphin high!

oh, no! my official opinion? you had the migraine starting up. running sort of enhanced that (all of the bopping up and down) and so it became really intense while you were running but because of all the endorphins running through your body, you didn't realize it until you STOPPED running. then, enter migraine. then throwing up. so my reason your workout didn't feel good is because you were harboring a secret migraine? How's that for official??

Ouch- a migraine? and you threw up? Maybe it is God's way of telling you to pick a new sport? = ) I have no idea. Good luck!

Unless you can think of something markedly different that you did in the days leading to it, a bad run IS totally random. I get cramps after most of mine, if I eat right before hand. It does just happen :( I hope it does not become common for you :(

I don't really get it either. Why doesn't running get easier and more fun?

I had the WORST run last night where I wanted to throw up. It was TERRIBLE. I'm happy to see that you had a bad one too (in a terrible selffish kinda way) because it makes me feel like I'm not alone :-)

We must run again though! xoxo
