An open letter to our upstairs neighbors

Dear Neighbors who have one or more toddlers,

Hi. It's me, your downstairs neighbor. The one with the cute dog. You've never met me, but you have talked to my husband before. And sometimes, Mom Neighbor, I see you starting your car in the morning when I'm leaving for work.

What do you do all night long? I ask only because to us, your kind downstairs neighbors, it sounds like you are constantly moving furniture. And/or jumping up and down in high heels. And/or dropping heavy objects. Thanks to the sub-par insulation system (?), I can hear through our ceiling whenever your toddler(s) cry, scream, jump up and down, or run around. And if I'm anywhere near either bathroom, I hear you peeing.

No, I don't have a toddler. In fact, I'm not even a mom yet. No, I know being parents to a toddler(s) is not easy - my experience as a nanny taught me that years ago. And yes, I know that sometimes I take the dog out to go to the bathroom at night when it's dark, and I don't pick it up til morning, when I can see what I may be stepping in - so that probably doesn't make me the best neighbor, either.

But seriously - what are you doing up there? We're just curious, that's all.

Your Downstairs Neighbor.

Sounds like our downstairs neighbors... they don't understand the concept of an "inside voice," so we hear EVERYTHING.
